An assembly of aging Jersey boys are spending two weeks in July holed up in a third-floor Long Branch recording studio, determined to complete what they started 50 years ago as a progressive rock band from England.
Drummer Ron Howden, bassist Derek “Mo” Moore and visual artist Mick Brockett are founding members of Nektar. They teamed up with guitarist Roye Albrighton and keyboard player Allan “Taff” Freeman to form the band in Germany in 1969.
“I lived in England for 18 years, I lived in Germany for 11 years, and I’ve been here for 40 years. I think that makes me an American,” said Moore, a retired HVAC contractor and Chester Township councilman. “I’ve been an American citizen for 26 years. I guess that makes me a Jersey boy.”
